New Works Aps recognizes that its responsibility to the environment goes beyond legal requirements.
Mission Statement We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods, with regular review points. We will encourage customers, suppliers and other participants involved to do the same.
Responsibility New Works Aps is responsible for ensuring that the environmental policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
Policy aims We endeavour to: — comply with applicable laws, regulations and other compliance obligations. — increase employee awareness through training. — incorporate environmental factors into business decisions and continuously strive to improve the utilisation of our resources within the company.
Production We are committed to setting high standards for both the quality of our products and for the conditions under which they are made. This implies working with trusted production partners that operate with care for the environment and for their workers.
The majority of our furniture collection is produced in Denmark, supplemented by Danish-owned factories in Europe. Manufacturers based in the European Union are bound by obligations of the chemical regulation REACH, which guarantees environmental protection. Our lighting is produced mainly in China where we work with a production partner especially proficient in this area. We expect of all of our suppliers that they operate according to standards equivalent to EU regulations. We visit production sites on a regular basis to make sure their conduct lives up to our quality standards.
Waste management In collaboration with our production partners, we will work on minimising waste and explore how leftover material can be utilised.
Design Longevity is key in our approach to design and we encourage mindful consumption based on the notion: less but better. Through our dedication to great craftsmanship and natural materials, we strive to create timeless, lasting pieces that each fulfil a purpose. This conviction serves as our guideline when we introduce new designs to the market.
Materials High-quality materials are at the heart of New Works’ design philosophy. When selecting materials, we evaluate the environmental impact of our choices and opt for durable and certified materials with a long life expectancy, which come from sources managed in environmentally appropriate ways.

We strive to simplify and optimise our logistics to make transport run as smoothly and environmentally friendly as possible. This entails making smart decisions and individually evaluate the optimal shipping of orders, such as sometimes sending stocked items directly from production sites to customers when it makes sense geographically.
Direct shipment Our made-to-order products are always shipped directly to the customer from the production site. Skipping the stopover at our warehouse, we are able to deliver products faster and minimise the environmental footprint caused by transport.
Energy-efficient transportation For overseas destinations, we strive to use sea freight rather than air freight to limit carbon emissions. As of 2021, we will be transporting by train from our lighting production in China whenever possible, as rail transport represents one of the most energy-efficient modes of transport.
We keep our packaging as minimal and fuss-free as possible to make it gentle on the environment. All of our products are delivered in brown boxes made from uncoated cardboard, which is biodegradable and fully recyclable. We try to use as few different materials in our packaging as possible and make sure they are not glued together for easy sorting.
Sustainable alternatives We are taking steps to improve in the area of protective packaging and implement sustainable alternatives to the common protective packaging. In 2020, we have replaced the use of polystyrene with eco-friendly paper pulp for the majority of our lighting, and will proceed with the rest of our collection, so that all polystyrene is replaced with paper pulp or other sustainable alternatives.
Recycled plastic We aim to reduce the use of single-use plastic whenever possible. For the products where a plastic cover is necessary to protect them from humidity during transport, we will use recycled plastic. We have replaced the plastic with recycled plastic in all versions of the Covent Chair and will gradually expand this initiative to the rest of our collection.

Energy consumption We seek to reduce the amount of energy used in our office/showroom as much as possible. Lights and electrical equipment are switched off when not in use.
Paper & Office supplies We evaluate if renting/sharing is an option before purchasing equipment. Furthermore, we evaluate the environmental impact of any new products we intend to purchase, and we favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible.
We strive to reuse and recycle everything we are able to. We continually make efforts to minimise the use of paper in the office, as well as reuse and recycle all paper when possible.
Maintenance & Cleaning Cleaning materials used are as environmentally friendly as possible. Materials used in office refurbishment will be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Travels We seek to reduce travels, restricting to necessity trips only. We promote the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail or video/phone conferencing and will make additional efforts to accommodate the needs of those using public transport or bicycles.
