For 3daysofdesign 2023, we slowed down our pace and dwelled on tactility, shapes, and subtle movements to create a space that invites for tranquillity and for seeing the beauty in even the smallest detail or gesture. A piece of fabric gently blowing in the wind. A cup of tea carefully prepared. The softness of a textile against your skin. By framing simple acts and observations as special moments, we continue our quest of elevating everyday practices.
A Poetic Disclosure
In collaboration with Lotta Agaton Interiors, New Works presented an exhibition inspired by the balance and serenity found in Japan.
Time for tea
Upon entering the New Works showroom at Frederiksgade 1, dark, dusty blue walls and ceilings instantly envelop you and along with the soft blue carpeted floors, courtesy of Ege Carpets, their infinite depth creates a muted sense of quiet and calm. The blue is echoed throughout the upholstery colour scheme and these cool tones ranging from indigo to midnight blue are perfectly paired with warm walnut and smoked oak. In the imposing corner room, custom room dividers in wood and textile offer a sense of privacy while allowing the light to still spread throughout the room. During the design days, this particular room was acting as a tea room for intimate ceremonies conducted by IO, a small Copenhagen tea house owned by Yukiko and Simon. One quickly forgets time and place when watching Yukiko’s flowing and precise movements as she meticulously prepares the brews.
Hidden and exposed, darkness and light, mystery and clarity. To illustrate the duality that exists in everything and has been the part of New Works since the very beginning, the exhibition consists of two parts divided between Frederiksgade 1 and Store Kongensgade 88. One is dark, one is light. One is intimate and quiet, ceremonial and embracing, the other airy and dreamy, grounded in a natural colour scheme.
Time for tea

Finally, there is the library, the most intimate space of the premises. A special place to seek knowledge and inspiration or simply be. A large Covent Residential Sofa dressed in a fairy tale pattern invites you to sit back and let the mind travel to far-away places.

Designed by Joel Fjällström, this new series consisting of a lounge chair, a 2-seater and a 3-seater sofa will be available in the fall. In opposition to the sweeping lines, cabinets and shelving create order, repetition, and rhythm throughout the exhibition.

New versions of the Bukowski Chair with seats in French cane are lined up at one of the lengthier tables. The airy wicker adds a new dimension to the bold frame of the chair and the natural tones of oak and cane fit right into the poetic nature of the exhibition space. Pendant lights float above it all as generous shades shielding the settings from an imagined sun.

In the open floor plan, each silhouette stands out, allowing the sculptural qualities of the designs to come into their own. As the light tones and textures merge with these fine-tuned shapes, they compose a breezy and ethereal atmosphere. A place to find a sense of calm during the hectic design days.
