A shared curiosity for the inherent beauty, tactility and function of clay brought New Works A STUDY together with ceramic artist Wilma Nawara. Based in Portugal, Wilma works with raw, unrefined clay, drawing inspiration from the rugged coastal landscape of Ferrel, where she collects wild clay and studies the shifting textures of sand and stone. Her experimental and holistic approach aligns seamlessly with A STUDY’s ethos—an ongoing exploration of materiality, where process and intuition take the lead.
The cups are sold in a set of two, both in the same color.
Each cup is handcrafted by Wilma in her ceramic workshop. Turned on the wheel and shaped by hand, each cup is made using the same orderly series of techniques by Wilma’s experienced hands, but with the small natural imperfections that make every piece special.
The Nawara Cup draws upon the hues and textures of the shore, combining Nawara's signature delicate edges and keen eye for tactility with a defined geometrical silhouette. A glossy interior meets a matte exterior in two opposing colourways: one dark and one light. Portraying dualities of soft and sharp, dark and light, smooth and rough, the pieces beautifully capture and cultivate the interplay of contrast that is an integral part of New Works.
